Restoration of Much-Loved Outdoor Activity Centre Completes
Alliance Leisure has completed restoration work on the popular Low Bank Ground Activity Centre in Coniston for Wigan Council’s health and wellbeing arm, Be Well.
Funded by the council, the £484,000 project has refurbished and extended the activity centre, which has provided outdoor educational residentials for schools and groups since the 1980s.
Situated on the shores of Coniston Water in the Lake District, the project modernised facilities at the centre and addressed the backlog of essential repairs and maintenance issues. The scheme also introduced a new storage building, sensitively designed to complement the surroundings.
“We’re delighted that to see the boathouse fully restored and back in use for the summer. Our trusted partner Alliance Leisure, and the team they assembled, demonstrated a deep understanding of what was needed to deliver the scheme successfully in this sensitive setting.”
“The Low Bank Ground Outdoor Adventure Centre is a truly special place, showcasing the very best of the Lake District. For many young people, a visit is their first experience away from home, equipping them with confidence, independence and other important life skills.”
Utilising the UK Leisure Framework, which is owned and managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd., Alliance Leisure assisted in the arrangement of some of the more challenging approvals and licenses required for the project.
“This has been a unique project for Alliance Leisure. The improvements at Low Bank Ground Activity Centre have created a more engaging environment for visitors, expanding access to outdoor activities that will help to promote active lifestyles, while supporting the ongoing growth and long-term sustainability of the centre.”
The team of experts working on the scheme included Universal Group, Bradshaw Gass and Hope, and Axiom.
