The MD150 family of photometers introducing the new 13in1 version
Following the successful launch of the MD150 range at SPATEX in February 2025 and the meter quickly established itself as one of the leading pool and spa water testing units. As with all Lovibond units the MD150 covers all the key water testing parameters required to run a pool or hot tub safely and is supplied with everything needed to start testing immediately. Parameters covered by the 6in1 version are free and total chlorine in the range 0-6 and 0-10mg/l, bromine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid. As with all Lovibond the meter is backed by over 40 years’ experience in photometer manufacture and unrivalled expertise and technical back-up. A new generation of photometers to meet the ever-increasing demands on leisure operators.
The MD150 brings water testing to a new level. Still using the tried and tested tablet chemistries recognised by all the guidance bodes the innovative optical system within the meter gives quick and repeatable readings whilst maintaining the unsurpassed accuracy you expect from Lovibond meters.
Features include:
Rapid zeroing and measurement (less than 2 seconds)
Accurate, repeatable and reliable readings
Icon driven test screen
Colour indication of reading errors
Automatic storage of results
Easy retrieval and transfer of data via NFC and USB
The ergonomical and rugged design give the operator peace of mind when testing giving laboratory grade accuracy in a handheld pool unit. All off this is covered by a 24-month comprehensive warranty showing our complete confidence in the meter.
Looking at some of the features in more detail
Speed of testing, although accuracy is important end users were always worried about how quick units are, the MD150 cuts down measuring time. Zeroing and reading is in around 1-2 seconds as opposed to the 8-10 seconds seen in traditional units. Our newly developed optical system allows for this whilst ensuring there is no loss in accuracy.
Combined Chlorine: With traditional photometers the practice was to carry out a free and total chlorine reading and then subtract one from the other, an easy but sometimes confusing task. The MD150 can do this for you with all three readings being displayed.
Data Storage and Transfer: Results are stored automatically – no need to press extra buttons. Transfer is down to the user: Via Near Field Transfer (NFC) using the Lovibond AquaLX App or USB using the cable supplied with the unit.
The NEW MD150 13in1 Pool Photometer
February 2026 sees the introduction of a new member of the MD150 family - the 13in1 unit. Designed to be one of the most versatile pool photometers available, it builds on the core parameters of the 6in1 while adding a comprehensive range of additional key tests, including:
Phosphate
Sulphate
Aluminium
Copper
Active Oxygen
Iron
Hydrogen Peroxide
Built for today. Ready for tomorrow.
One of its key enhancements is a new extended lower pH measurement range of 5.2–6.8, helping operators future-proof their testing as recommended operating pH levels continue to trend lower.
Over recent years, guidance has increasingly moved towards reduced pH levels to optimise water quality and bather comfort. While the traditional phenol red method remains widely used, it has practical limitations at the lower end of the scale. The extended pH capability of the MD150 13in1 ensures accurate, reliable monitoring should future standards continue to evolve.
Why phosphate?
Phosphate and swimming pools do not mix. Even small amounts can promote algae growth, increasing chemical demand and maintenance costs. Monitoring phosphate levels allows operators to identify and address potential problems early, helping to keep pools clear, stable, and easier to manage.
Why sulphate?
Sulphate levels in source water are rising, and many commonly used pool chemicals can contribute to sulphate build-up over time. Sulphates are aggressive: they can attack concrete structures, corrode metal fixtures, and degrade plastics. Regular sulphate monitoring helps protect pool infrastructure, extend asset life, and maintain long-term structural integrity.
Proven MD150 performance
The MD150 13in1 includes all the features users expect from the MD150 range, combining robust construction, intuitive operation, and reliable measurement performance. It offers pool professionals a single, future-ready solution for comprehensive water quality control without compromise.
Keeping the MD150 up to date:
Instruments can go out of date as method are tweaked and improved With the MD150 you can easily update the firmware and methods in seconds using Lovibond® Data Expert. Updates are available on the instrument’s webpage making sure that your meter can always contain the most current test methods.
